ARTIST STATEMENT
The foundation of life is set on a code, a kind of unexplainable, and form. Grunge Arte™, the appellation of the work by Grunge Studios, is the assimilation [through painting] of the miscellaneous order of the matter and energy that make existence.
By definition Grunge Arte™ is an artistic blend that incorporates the three spheres of life and living. These spheres are structure, communication and abstraction; and they are manifest through the collage of graffiti, figurative art and abstract art. In relation to communication, Grunge Arte™ is concerned with all forms of speech or information transference, which is the dissemination of anything and everything from Egyptian hieroglyphs to mathematical equations; structure is referring to any kind of form or figure; and abstraction is all about anti-matter streams, which include gravity, light, photosynthesis and time.
This art form purports not to ideals, however it is a conveyor for ideas. In the face of the history of the world, in art it is quite simply an almost impossible task to produce a new vision. The planet sits on a perch built by past imagination from the industrial age, honed with the might of the gun. This 21st century we as a species are confronted with the digital age, and the grounds for a new world based on now imagination is set. It is ever more crucial to remember and be closer to the humanness of the planet, as today's world is strewn with battlefields of disease, the Kalashnikov AK-47 and GLOBAL warming.
The Grunge Arte™ primary concern being that of art, life and living, heretofore maintains that this art form which is not bound to any specific discipline, (i.e. sculpture, video, animation, painting) is about the reinterpretation of popular imagination from the vantage point of this newborn century, where restructured imagination is restructured matter.
Grunge Arte™ is influenced and inspired by the history of art and the history of life. It denounces the mundane and trivial expressions labeled as art; while on the other hand it is a call for the expounding of skill embalmed in imagination, for present day and future audiences. Grunge Arte™ is ethical art for art sake. Being a painter visual exploration and digestion is the gain; and as an observer of the human condition within structural environments - a result is a painting as the observed. The observed makes use of symbolism, metaphors and allegories, it is multi-dimensional, and holds no one single interpretation. All initiated work is orchestrated on untreated surfaces as this brings individuality to the picture, resulting in a natural nullification of the surface. The surface becomes a painting not only by a mechanical process but also through an organic metamorphosis. The paintings are multi-layered and of a multi-media nature. The art employs parameters such as colour, line, texture, smell, sound, form and light. Essentially, Grunge Arte™ is the application of the traditional ethics of art in 2000+AD. As a grunge artist I embrace the digital world, nonetheless every piece created begins with the freehand.
